Eva’s 1st birthday was a super girly garden party, with bright colours and a whole heap of bunting. Along with 80 family and friends, she blew out her very first candle in the beautiful surrounds of Lane Cove National Park. Donna, Eva’s mother, enlisted the help of Joni from Chasing Arrows, to plan, style and photograph the event.

Together they decided on a colour palette of mint and soft pink, with added gold to give contrast and depth. Donna’s only requirement was that party be fun and filled with decorations that would ‘wow’ guests. ‘I made a wooden box as a cake stand and put a bunting pattern on it, and a bunting cake topper for the cake. On top of that we had lots of bunting draped all around the venue,’ said Joni.

She also created a range of other elements like a hand painted ‘Welcome to Eva’s First Birthday’ sign, and gold glitter dipped jars for the flower arrangements. She even made the food tags and thank you labels, and as a little surprise for Eva, she bought plastic versions of Eva’s favourite animals, spray painted them gold, and displayed them on top of painted wooden blocks.

If you’re currently planning a celebration for your little one then take note, because not only is this 1st birthday extremely adorable, it’s also the perfect example of how to create a kid’s party that will ‘wow’ guests, without going too OTT!
